Students start getting petrified by an unknown creature, and Harry discovers he can speak Parseltongue (the language of snakes), which leads to suspicions about him. Eventually, he learns that a diary containing a fragment of Voldemort's soul is controlling Ginny Weasley, Ron's younger sister, and using a giant serpent, the Basilisk, to attack students.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
In his third year, Harry learns that Sirius Black, an escaped prisoner from Azkaban (the wizard prison), is believed to be after him. Harry discovers that Sirius is actually his godfather and was wrongfully accused of betraying Harry's parents to Voldemort. Sirius, along with Remus Lupin (Harry’s Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and a werewolf), reveals that Peter Pettigrew, another of Harry's father's friends, was the actual traitor. Pettigrew escapes, leaving the mystery unresolved.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Harry is unexpectedly entered into the Triwizard Tournament, a magical competition held between three wizarding schools. The tournament is dangerous, and Harry is much younger than the other competitors. As he competes in various deadly tasks, he uncovers a plot involving the return of Voldemort. In the final task, Harry and fellow student Cedric Diggory are transported to a graveyard where Voldemort is resurrected. Cedric is killed, and Harry narrowly escapes back to Hogwarts, warning everyone of Voldemort's return.
