Plot Summary

Introduction:

The film opens with Gaurav Chandna (Shah Rukh Khan), a young man from Delhi who idolizes Bollywood superstar Aryan Khanna (also played by Shah Rukh Khan). Gaurav has grown up worshipping Aryan, imitating his style, and celebrating his every success. Gaurav even runs a cyber cafe named after Aryan and wins local talent contests by impersonating him.

Gaurav's Journey to Meet Aryan:

On Aryan Khanna's birthday, Gaurav decides to travel to Mumbai to meet his idol. He plans to gift Aryan the trophy he won at a local talent contest and express his admiration for him. However, upon arriving in Mumbai, Gaurav discovers that Aryan is not as accessible as he thought. Despite his best efforts, Gaurav is unable to meet Aryan. Frustrated but undeterred, he comes up with a plan to grab Aryan’s attention.

Conflict Arises:

Gaurav learns about a rival actor, Sid Kapoor, who has insulted Aryan. In an attempt to show his loyalty to Aryan, Gaurav kidnaps Sid, assaults him, and forces him to apologize to Aryan on camera. Gaurav then shows up at Aryan’s house, expecting to be welcomed with open arms for his actions. However, Aryan is horrified by Gaurav's behavior and chastises him, stating that what he did was wrong and that he is not a true fan. Aryan has Gaurav arrested and orders him to return to Delhi, telling him not to come near him again.

Gaurav's Obsession Turns Dark:

Feeling betrayed by his idol, Gaurav’s admiration turns into hatred. He returns to Delhi but not before vowing to make Aryan regret his actions. Gaurav then embarks on a mission to ruin Aryan’s reputation. Using his uncanny resemblance to Aryan, Gaurav starts impersonating him in public events, causing trouble and making Aryan look bad. For instance, Gaurav disrupts Aryan’s stage show in London, assaults a fan while pretending to be him, and even humiliates Aryan in front of his fans.
